SPC, FAO Support Awareness-Raising of Forest Benefits in Asia-Pacific

11 November 2011: The Land Resource Division (LRD) of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) supported an initiative to increase community and youth awareness of forest benefits in Fiji. The Fiji project was the pilot initiative for efforts to provide forest education for children across the Asia-Pacific region, SPC notes.

The initiative, titled "Kids to Forest," was implemented by Live and Learn Education, through the National Forest Program Facility partnership. According to Live and Learn, the pilot was developed to expose younger generations to the multiple benefits of forests, through hands-on learning experiences. The overall goal is to build interest in forestry among youth in the region. [SPC Press Release]
