May 2012: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) has released the 2012 edition of its regional report the State of Arab Cities on the theme “Challenges of Urban Transition.” The report notes that, although urban slums are decreasing and urban innovations are being introduced, the region still faces major challenges, including high youth unemployment rates and climate change.
4 May 2012: The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) held meetings of the Pilot Program on Climate Resilience (PPCR) Sub-Committee, the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Program (SREP) Sub-Committee, the Strategic Climate Fund (SCF) Trust Fund Committee, the Clean Technology Fund (CTF) Trust Fund Committee, and the Forest Investment Program (FIP) sub-Committee, and approved new projects on climate resilience, renewable energy and forests.
23 April 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released 14 submissions from Parties containing their views on the term and mandate of the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (non-Annex I Parties) and the need for continuation of the group (FCCC/SBI/2012/MISC.6).
16 April 2011: At its 17th meeting, the Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) accredited new National Implementing Entities (NIE) from Kenya, Mexico and Argentina, and approved a collection of project concepts and a proposal.
11 April 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released 12 submission from Parties containing their views on the various approaches, including opportunities for using markets, to enhance the cost-effectiveness of, and to promote, mitigation actions, bearing in mind different circumstances of developed and developing countries (FCCC/AWGLCA/2012/MISC.6).
11 April 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released 18 submissions from Parties containing their views on modalities and procedures for financing results-based actions and considering activities related to decision 1/CP.16 (The Cancun Agreements: Outcome of the work of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA)) paragraphs 68-70 and 72 (relating to policy approaches and positive incentives on issues relating to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries; and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks in developing countries (REDD+))(FCCC/AWGLCA/2012/MISC.3).
28 March 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the submissions from two intergovernmental organizations and 19 Parties containing their views on options and ways for further increasing the level of ambition.
March 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) have published their annual report on joint projects financed during 2011 on ecosystems and biodiversity preservation, green development strategies, and sustainable use of water and ocean resources, among other topics.
23 March 2012: The Equator Initiative has announced its 2012 Equator Prize winners, honoring 25 initiatives from around the globe for their role in advancing sustainable developments through innovative and pioneering projects.
At its 17th meeting, the Adaptation Fund Board will consider issues relating to regional projects and programmes and an update on an initial screening/technical review of proposals. Full proposals from Multilateral Implementing Entities (MIEs) will be reviewed from Colombia, Ghana and Papua New Guinea, and concept notes from Belize, Cambodia and Lebanon. A project proposal from a National Implementing Entity (NIE) in Benin will also be considered.
