14 May 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the submissions from Belarus, Iceland and Nauru on behalf of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), containing information on Annex I Parties' quantified emission limitation or reduction objectives (QELROs) for the second Kyoto Protocol commitment period (FCCC/KP/AWG/2012/MISC.1/Add.1).
8 May 2012: An Informal Ministerial Roundtable on Climate Change brought together representatives from 30 countries, including from least developed countries (LDCs) and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), to build on the achievements of the Durban Climate Change Conference. The meeting, which was hosted by the EU, also provided an opportunity for Ministers to discuss the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
24 April 2012: The UK Deputy Prime Minister has pledged an additional £25 million to support the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) program to provide clean energy access to the world’s poorest countries.
27 April 2012: The International Polar Year (IPY) 2012 Conference convened around the theme “From Knowledge to Action,” with discussions on a variety of issues related to Arctic issues. Panel sessions addressed, inter alia: Earth structure and geodynamics; polar ocean processes; permafrost; marine, territorial and freshwater polar ecosystems; and communicating polar science.
24 April 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released nine submissions from parties containing additional information relating to the quantified economywide emission reduction targets contained in document FCCC/SB/2011/INF.1/Rev.1 (FCCC/AWGLCA/2012/MISC.1).
23 April 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released 14 submissions from Parties containing their views on the term and mandate of the Consultative Group of Experts on National Communications from Parties not included in Annex I to the Convention (non-Annex I Parties) and the need for continuation of the group (FCCC/SBI/2012/MISC.6).
14 April 2012: The Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Initiative's Spring newsletter highlights European Commission (EC) financial support for SE4ALL, technical assistance activities in developing countries, as well as the roll-out of activities related to SE4ALL for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
18 April 2012: The Pacific-European Network (PACE-Net) Conference, which convened under the theme "Strengthening Pacific-European Collaboration in Research, Development, and Innovation," featured workshops on water, agriculture and forestry, natural hazards, fisheries, and mid-term research, development and innovation policies.
16 April 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat have reported that they received bids to host the Green Climate Fund (GCF) from the following six UNFCCC parties: Germany, Mexico, Namibia, Poland, Republic of Korea, and Switzerland.
12 April 2012: With the aim of reinforcing its cooperation with Pacific countries to help address the impacts of climate change, including the effects of rising sea levels, the European Commission has issued a joint communication titled “Towards a renewed EU-Pacific development partnership.” The partnership aims to effectively address climate change and development in a coordinated manner.
